This part of ISO 25239 defines friction stir welding terms. In this part of ISO 25239, the term "aluminium" refers to aluminium and its alloys.

NOTE In addition to terms in English and French (two of the three official ISO languages), this part of ISO 25239 gives the equivalent terms in German; these are published under the responsibility of the member body for Germany (DIN). The vocabulary is limited to those terms in general use throughout the rubber industry.

It does not define terms intended for particular rubber products, some of which are given in the vocabulary standards listed in the Bibliography.

It does not define terms that are generally understood or adequately defined in other readily available sources such as general dictionaries.

The terms are listed in the alphabetical order of the English terms, with a French index to the corresponding English terms attached. Some terms have parenthetical information added to indicate a specific limitation of the term to a particular field, for example “〈ubber latex〉”. When a term has one or more synonyms, the synonymous terms follow the preferred term.

Deprecated terms are indicated by “DEPRECATED”.

Symbols are included under their full descriptions, but for convenience they are also listed separately at the end of the main text.

For convenience, standards and other relevant sources referred to in this vocabulary are listed in the first section of the Bibliography and vocabularies relating to finished rubber products are listed in the second section.

This document specifies a method for the dynamic measurement of the roll-off angle of a liquid drop on a solid surface. From the dynamic measurement, the advancing and receding angles of the drop rolling off can also be determined. This document specifies a test method to measure the contact angle for the determination of the surface free energy of a solid surface. The method can be applied for the characterization of substrates and coatings.

NOTE 1 For the determination of the surface free energy of polymers and coatings, either the method in accordance with Owens, Wendt, Rabel and Kaelble or the method in accordance with Wu is used preferably.

NOTE 2 The morphological and chemical homogeneity have an influence on the measuring results.

NOTE 3 The procedures indicated in this document are based on the state-of-the-art employing the drop projection method in penumbral shadow. Other methods are not excluded.

NOTE 4 Measuring the contact angle on powders is not part of this document. For further information, see the bibliography.
