The proposed revision of ISO 16739-1:2018 focusses on additions to the data schema and reference data to further support the infrastructure domains, particularly for bridges, roads, rails, ports and waterways and common foundations, such as alignment, terrain, strata and earthworks. The scope of the proposed revision is in line with the overall scope mention of ISO 16739-1:2018 “to include data definitions for infrastructure assets over their life cycle as well”. The general scope and title of ISO 16739 being an international standard for “data sharing in the construction and facility management industries” remains valid.

This document provides an overview of the ISO 10303 series of parts.
The ISO 10303 series provides a representation of product information along with the necessary mechanisms and definitions to enable product data to be exchanged. The exchange is among different computer systems and environments associated with the complete product life cycle, including product design, manufacture, use, maintenance, and final disposition of the product.
This document defines the basic principles of product information representation and exchange used in the ISO 10303 series of parts. It specifies the characteristics of the various sets of parts of ISO 10303 and the relationships among them.
The following are within the scope of this document:
— scope statement for the ISO 10303 series as a whole;
— overview of the ISO 10303 series;
— architectures of the ISO 10303 series of parts;
— structure of the ISO 10303 series of parts;
— overview of data specification methods used in the ISO 10303 series of parts;
NOTE This includes the EXPRESS data specification language and graphical presentation of product information models.
