This part of ISO 21760-2 specifies five methods for determining the water vapour transmission rate through the cross-section of an adhesive for edge seal in organic electronic devices such as organic light emitting diodes and organic photovoltaic cells.

The methods provide rapid measurement over a wide range of water vapour transmission rates.

NOTE Materials such as an organic layer and metal layer comprising the flexible organic electronic device are degraded by the penetration of a very small amount of water vapour. The hermetic lid and adhesive seal around the edges of the lid are required to have high barrier properties for the device as will be described in Fourth clause "Principle". The method for determining the water vapour transmission rate of adhesive is specified in accordance with one of ISO 15106-3, 5, -6, or -7.

This standard specifies six methods for determining the water vapour transmission rate of adhesive films coated on a plastic substrate.

The adhesive is used in organic electronic devices such as organic light-emitting diodes.

The method provides rapid measurement over a wide range of water vapour transmission rates.

NOTE Materials such as a light-emitting layer constituting the flexible organic electronic device are degraded by the penetration of a very small amount of water vapour. Both the plastic substrate and adhesive film (seal material) are required to have high barrier properties. The method for determining the water vapour transmission rate of plastic substrates is specified in accordance with one of ISO 15106-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, or -6.

The water vapour transmission rate of self-supporting adhesive film shall be determined in accordance with all parts of ISO 15106.

This International Standard specifies a method for evaluating the adhesion of elastic adhesives and sealants (with a minimum elongation at break of 100 % and a modulus of elasticity of maximum 10 MPa1) on various substrates. In this way, the effect of various coatings or the surface pre-treatments of the substrate materials on the adhesion can be compared. It can also be used to evaluate the influence of pre-treatment, substrate and adhesive on the long term durability of adhesively bonded joints and seals. An adhesion test according to this standard can also be recommended for process monitoring and quality assurance accompanying production.

This International Standard specifies a dynamic impact wedge method for the determination of the cleavage resistance under impact loading of high-strength adhesive bonds between two adherends, when tested under specified conditions of preparation and testing. This test procedure does not provide design information.

The method allows a choice of sheet metal or fiber reinforced plastic substrates corresponding to those materials frequently used in industry, e.g. for automotive applications.
