This document specifies performance requirements (methods and procedures for testing and calculating) for determining the Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI) of rotodynamic glanded water pumps for pumping clean water, including where integrated in other products.

The pump types and sizes covered by this standard are described in the Annex A. These pumps are designed and produced as duty pumps for pressures up to 16 bar for end suction pumps and up to 25 bar for multistage pumps, temperatures between −10 °C and +120°C and 4" or 6" size for submersible multistage pumps at operating temperatures within a range of 0 °C and 90 °C.

In addition this standard specifies how the value of the Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI) of a pump size indicated by the manufacturer can be checked by market surveillance.

Even if it is left free to the manufacturer of a pump size, how to prove the rated value of the Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI), nevertheless this standard specifies a method to prove that this rated value meets the requirements within the confidence intervals with a sufficiently high probability.

This documents specifies methods and procedures for testing, calculating and determining the Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) of booster sets.

A booster set is either a single pump unit or an assembly of pump units connected in parallel with a maximum hydraulic power of 150 kW, a minimum rated flow of 6 m3/h (0,001667 m3/s), to be operat-ed with backflow prevention and additional components influencing hydraulic performance and with components necessary to control pressure or provide flow in open loops inside buildings and which is placed on the market and/or put into service as one single product and its intended use is to pump clean water and does not have a self-priming functionality.

This International Standard specifies all the information necessary to carry out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration, and verification of the airborne noise emission of liquid pumps or pump units (see 4.1). It specifies the noise measurement methods and the operating and mounting conditions that shall be used for the test.

Noise emission characteristics include emission sound pressure levels at specified positions and the sound power level. The determination of these quantities is necessary for

— declaring the noise emission values, and

— purpose of noise control at source at the design stage.

The determination of these quantities is also necessary for comparing the noise emitted by liquid pumps on the market.

The use of this International Standard ensures the reproducibility of the determination of the airborne noise-emission characteristics within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy of the basic airborne noise measurement method used. Noise measurement methods according to this International Standard are engineering methods (grade 2) and survey methods (grade 3).

This International Standard does not deal with the characterization of the structure-borne sound and liquid-borne noise generated by liquid pumps.

NOTE This International Standard is specified in EN 809+A1 for noise measurements of the Pump (or Pump Unit).
